Sunshine on a rainy day

We've been inundated with rain for the past month. Everything is lush and green, and the flowers are blooming despite the gray days. The blossoms are totally oblivious to the depressing environment, which is a wonderful thing.

Here are some peonies, the yellow one from my tree peony. It's blooms are scented with a light lemon fragrance. The pink ones are bushes that were with the house when we bought it. The young boy that lived in the house worked for a farmer one summer and was paid in peonies. That was over 80 years ago, and even though that lad has long since grown up and moved on, the plants are still going strong.
